Carolina Panthers human joystick Christian McCaffrey was seen at practice on Monday donning a red no-contact jersey. McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain after the Panthers Week 2 loss at Tampa Bay.
McCaffrey stood on the offensive side of the field during the media portion of practice but did not actively participate. Given a four-to-six week recovery period five weeks ago, head coach Matt Rhule said that there is a “possibility” that McCaffrey could play in Thursday night’s divisional matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Rhule also stated that McCaffrey has not been designated to return just yet; when he is, he will have a 21-day practice window where he will not count against the 53-man roster.
With this being a short week for the Panthers and a mini-bye of sorts, it is possible that the Panthers continue to bring McCaffrey along slowly in hopes that he will be available for the Week 9 road game against the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
After an 0-2 start, the Panthers have gone 3-2 during McCaffrey’s five game absence.Tags: Carolina Panthers, Christian McCaffrey, Latest, NFL
